The fifth installment of Old Caleria’s factions focuses upon the mercantile region of Innes Vale.
Within the sheltering mountain ranges of the north lies the lush and verdant Innes Vale. Here the merchants of the land haggle over goods and services, offering anything and everything for a price. With its people having earned the reputation of being greedy, deceitful and sometimes dishonest, the merchants of Innes Vale also boast the majority of the wealthiest men and women in all the land, easily rivaling any noble or lord.
Cities: The Haig, Copenrun, Relabeng, Styre and Stonewall.
Key cities and leaders:
The Haig: Long the center from which all the money of the realm flows, The Haig is the area's most opulent and wealthy city, the buildings and services bordering upon the gaudy to the sinful to the obscene. It is here that the largest merchant companies make their base of operations. Trading empires have been both born and destroyed within the walls of The Haig. Assassinations and deceit run rampant. Everyone is an informant, everyone has already been bribed and yet somehow, through all the chaos, the powerful grow ever more so; those that survive of course. Sporting no defenses whatsoever, the populace of The Haig believe themselves protected by their wealth.
Copenrun: It is here that many unsigned sellswords make their homes. Unwanted after the yearly spring Ca’lenbam, Copenrun has become a haven for the mercenaries of Old Caleria. Training yards abound and companies hard on thier luck often recruit the soldiers here when no others can be found. For all the wealth the upper echelon possess, Copenrun has garnered a cruel and seedy reputation. Here only the toughest of merchants can, or want to for that matter, find success.
Stonewall: This city, situated at the mouth of the northern pass in Northern Council lands remains the only Vale settlement with any defenses of which to speak of. Designed not unlike the fortresses of the Iron Shield, although on a far smaller scale, Stonewall has become the gateway into the Innes Vale. It is here that the highest tariff officials reside, their fees steep and their list of rules and regulations lengthy. As has been the tradition the Regulations committee and their ruling mayor, Grant Oldmoon, reside within the strong walls of the city.
Current state of affairs:
Money talks in the territories of the Vale. For as long as Caleria has been broken, the merchants of Innes Vale have sold their services to those with the deepest coffers. Their society has changed little, if at all, over the years and even now they continue to profit on the never ending wars of the summer. If anything though, those of the Vale have started to become even greedier. Rumblings persist that the closed off Aeldenwood trading routes will once again be opened, the risk versus profit deemed within acceptable limits.
